More than 10 Canadians have been nominated for the 2025 U.S. Will Eisner Comic Industry Awards.
Jeff Lemire, Mariko Tamaki, Sid Sharp, Elise Gravel, Adam de Souza, David Lapp, Sarah Leavitt, Maurice Vellekoop, Alison McCreesh, Boum, and Chip Zdarsky are among the nominees in 32 categories, with Canadian creators accounting for all but one of the five nominees in the Best Graphic Memoir category.
Mariko Tamaki has been nominated in the Best Limited Series category, alongside Javier Rodriguez, for Zatanna: Bring Down the House (DC).
In the Best New Series category, Jeff Lemire is nominated for Minor Arcana (BOOM! Studios).
Sid Sharp and Elise Gravel have both been nominated in the Best Publication for Early Readers category: Sharp for Bog Myrtle (Annick Press), and Gravel for Club Microbe, translated by Montana Kane (Drawn & Quarterly).
The Gulf, by Adam de Souza (Tundra Books/Penguin Random House Canada) is nominated in Best Publication for Teens.
In the Best Graphic Memoir category, Canadians dominate the list: Alison McCreesh is nominated for Degrees of Separation: A Decade North of 60 (Conundrum Press), David Lapp is nominated for The Field (Conundrum Press), Maurice Vellekoop is nominated for his Toronto Book Award-winning I’m So Glad We Had This Time Together: A Memoir (Random House Canada), and Sarah Leavitt is nominated for Something, Not Nothing: A Story of Grief and Love (Arsenal Pulp Press).
Boum is nominated in the Best U.S. Edition of International Material category for The Jellyfish, translated by Robin Lang and Helge Dascher (Pow Pow Press).
Chip Zdarsky’s Zdarsky Comics News, edited by Allison O’Toole, is nominated for Best Comics-related Periodical/Journalism.
Bryan Lee O’Malley’s Scott Pilgrim 20th Anniversary Color Hardcover Box Set, designed by Patrick Crotty (Oni Press) is nominated for Best Publication Design.
Drawn & Quarterly has five nominations. Conundrum Press has two nominations, both in the graphic memoir category.
The winners of the annual awards will be named at a ceremony in San Diego on July 25 during this year’s Comic-Con.
