Canadian authors June Hur, Alexis Stefanovich-Thomson, Beverley McLachlin, Tom Ryan, Kelley Armstrong, and Margaret Atwood are among the nominees for the Mystery Writers of America’s 2025 Edgar Allan Poe Awards. The shortlists were announced on Jan. 22.
June Hur’s historical YA fiction A Crane Among Wolves (Feiwel & Friends/Macmillan Publishers) is shortlisted in the best young adult category .
Alexis Stefanovich-Thomson is shortlisted in the best paperback original category for The Road to Heaven, the first title in the Patrick Bird Mystery series, published by Dundurn Press.
Tom Ryan’s adult fiction debut The Treasure Hunters Club, published by Simon & Schuster in Canada and Grove Atlantic in the U.S., is nominated for the Lilian Jackson Braun Memorial Award for contemporary cozy mystery.
Two Canadians are shortlisted for the G.P. Putnam’s Sons Sue Grafton Memorial Award for the best novel in a series featuring a female protagonist. Former Chief Justice Beverley McLachlin is nominated for Proof, her third Jilly Truitt novel, published by Simon & Schuster. Prolific author Kelley Armstrong is also nominated for Disturbing the Dead, the third title in A Rip Through Time series, published by Minotaur Books.
Margaret Atwood is shortlisted in the best short story category for “Cut and Thirst,” published by Amazon Original Stories.
The winners of the Edgar Allan Poe Awards be announced in New York on May 1.
