Laisha Rosnau wins Kobzar Book Award for Ukranian-Canadian writing

Laisha Rosnau

Coldstream, B.C., poet and novelist Laisha Rosnau has won the $25,000 Kobzar Book Award for her 2018 collection of poetry Our Familiar Hunger (Nightwood Editions). The Kobzar celebrates a written work about the Ukrainian-Canadian experience. Our Familiar Hunger focuses on generations of Eastern European women, contemporary and historical, and was inspired by Rosnau’s maternal grandparents, who immigrated to Canada from the Ukraine.

The Kobzar is presented biannually and is open to literary non-fiction, fiction, poetry, young readers’ literature, plays, screenplays, and musicals. In 2018, it was presented to Unbound: Ukrainian Canadians Writing Home, a collection of creative writing edited by Lisa Grekul and Lindy Ledohowski.
