Longlist announced for 2026 Purdy Prize

Ten poets have been named to the longlist for the 2026 Al and Eurithe Purdy Poetry Prize.

The $10,000 prize, established in 2024 by Al Purdy’s widow Eurithe Purdy and administered by the Al Purdy A-Frame Association, recognizes the most outstanding new poetry book by an established Canadian poet. The previous winners of the prize are poets Sid Marty and A.F. Moritz, who sit on the jury for this year’s award alongside Susan Musgrave.

A shortlist will be announced on April 2, with the winner to be named on April 21.

The longlisted titles are:

  • I Would Like to Say Thank You by Joseph Dandurand (Nightwood Editions)

  • Parade of Storms by Evelyn Lau (Anvil Press)
  • Wellwater by Karen Solie (House of Anansi Press)
  • An Orange, A Syllable by Gillian Sze (ECW Press)
  • On The News that Sagittarius A* Grows Hungrier by Nicola Vulpe (Guernica Editions)
  • Out of the Ordinary by Tom Wayman (Harbour Publishing)
