Looking for a new audiobook and to support local indies? Canadian booksellers sign up with Libro.fm

(Dalbert Vilarino)

Canadian independent booksellers are now offering audiobooks via Libro.fm, a Seattle-based company that partners with brick-and-mortar retailers to sell titles online. Libro.fm is the only audiobook service that shares profits with indie booksellers.

More than 150,000 new releases and backlist titles are available on the platform, which also offers bookseller recommendations.

Customers can purchase a single title or sign up for a subscription, with profits shared between Libro.fm and their bookseller of choice. The site is currently offering a reduced membership rate with 100 per cent of profits going to the local bookstore.

The service is especially valuable for booksellers without a digital storefront, or those which don’t sell audiobooks online. Some of the many Canadian shops on the site include Misty River Books (Terrance, B.C.), Turning the Tide Bookstore (Saskatoon), Argo Bookstore (Montreal), Drawn & Quarterly (Montreal), Bookmark Booksellers (Charlottetown, Halifax), Blue Heron Books (Uxbridge, ON),  Mable’s Fables (Toronto), Queen Books (Toronto), The Book Keeper (Sarnia, ON), King W. Books (Hamilton), Lexicon Books (Lunenberg, NS), and Black Bond Books (B.C.)
