Madelaine Caritas Longman wins Joseph S. Stauffer Prize for literature

Madelaine Caritas Longman has been named the winner of the 2025 Joseph S. Stauffer Prize for literature.

Montreal-based Longman is the author of the poetry collection The Danger Model (McGill-Queen’s University Press), which won the 2020 Quebec Writers’ Federation Concordia University First Book Prize.

The annual Joseph S. Stauffer Prizes, administered by the Canada Council, are awarded to emerging or mid-career artists who stand out for their strong artistic potential in their respective disciplines of literature, music, and visual arts. This year, the prize for music went to Kyran, and the visual arts prize to Anique Jordan.

Each winner receives a $5,000 prize.
