Penguin Canada has a new publisher.

Marion Garner, who has been with Penguin Random House Canada since 1996 when she joined Random House Canada as a sales rep, takes the helm as of Jan. 6, 2025. Garner has held a variety of roles at the publisher over the years, including associate publisher of Vintage Canada, associate publisher of The Knopf Random House Canada Group, and deputy publisher of Penguin Random House Canada. She has served most recently as vice president of publishing management.

Penguin Random House Canada CEO Kristin Cochrane, who has been leading the Penguin Canada team since former publisher Nicole Winstanley left in April to become president and publisher of Simon & Schuster Canada, announced Garner’s new role on December 5.

Calling Garner “one of the most trusted and accomplished publishing talents at Penguin Random House Canada,” Cochrane said she was glad Garner was “persuaded” to take on the role.

“She’s been at the centre of the action for a long time, serving our authors and their books in every role she’s held, and she will bring all she’s learned and taught us into this new position,” Cochrane said in announcing the news.

Changes for the people and teams Garner currently manages across the entire Canadian publishing program will be announced in the new year.
