Naomi Klein shortlisted for Writers’ Prize

Naomi Klein (Sebastian Nevols)

Naomi Klein has made the nonfiction shortlist for the 2024 Writers’ Prize in the U.K.

Klein is one of three finalists for the nonfiction prize for her book Doppelganger: A Trip into the Mirror World (Knopf Canada/Penguin Books in the U.K.). Part memoir, part reportage, the book explores the dangerous duplicities of our time.

Winners of the three categories, as well as the book of the year, will be announced on March 13.

Formerly known as the Rathbones Folio Prize, the Writers’ Prize, now in its tenth year, is open to works in English published in the U.K., and awards prizes in three categories (fiction, nonfiction, and poetry) as well as a book of the year. Category winners are awarded £2,000 (about $3,400 CAD) prizes, and the author of the book of the year wins £30,000 (about $50,000 CAD).

This year, the prize is operating without judges; winners will be selected by the 350-person Folio Academy, an international group of writers and critics.

Previous winners of the prize include Colm Tóibín, Carmen Maria Machado, and last year’s overall winner, Margo Jefferson.
