Otoniya J. Okot Bitek and Hajer Mirwali have won the 2026 Trillium Book Awards.
Sarah Migneron and Lisa L’Heureux were named the winners of the 2026 Prix Trillium.
Ontario Creates announced the winners on June 10.
Bitek won the Trillium Book Award for her novel We, The Kindling (Alchemy by Knopf Canada/Penguin Random House Canada), which follows three survivors of the Lord’s Resistance Army as they navigate their haunted past and present lives in Uganda.
Mirwali won the Trillium Book Award for Poetry for Revolutions (Talonbooks), a collection that examines the overlapping metaphorical circles of shame and pleasure.
Migneron won for Maman bleue (Éditions Prise de parole) and L’Heureux won the French poetry prize for Haus (Éditions Prise de parole).
The winners were selected from 16 finalists announced last month.
The annual awards, now in their 39th year, recognize literary excellence in Ontario writers who work in both French and English. Winning authors of the Trillium Book Award and Prix Trillium receive $20,000, while winning poets of the Trillium Book Award for Poetry receive $10,000. Winning authors of the French-language prize for best children’s book receive $10,000. Publishers of the winning titles receive support to promote and market the winning books.
