Penguin Random House Canada launches design prize

Penguin Random House Canada has announced a new annual design award for emerging designers and artists.

The competition for this first year is based on redesigning the book cover for Elamin Abdelmahmoud’s memoir Son of Elsewhere, first published in 2022.

The winner of the Penguin Random House Canada Design Award will receive six one-hour mentorship sessions (virtual or in-person) over a period of six months with Penguin Random House Canada’s in-house design team and a $500 gift card for penguinshop.ca. Two runners-up will also each receive a gift card.

The jury panel will be comprised of Elamin Abdelmahmoud, McClelland & Stewart publisher and Penguin Random House Canada vice president Stephanie Sinclair, PRHC creative director Terri Nimmo, and senior designer Jennifer Griffiths.

Guidelines and cover brief for the competition are outlined here.

The submission deadline for the competition is May 12. A shortlist will be announced on June 9, and the winner and runners-up will be announced on June 27.
