Robert Gray’s Entropic to be adapted to film

Robert Gray

Robert Gray (Dale Strickland)

Author and University of New Brunswick English professor Robert Gray is adapting a selection from his sophomore experimental story collection Entropic (NeWest Press) to film. The title, which won the $25,000 Thomas Raddall Atlantic Fiction Award at the 2016 East Coast Book Awards, features themes of the uncanny and alternate realities. Of the selected story, Gray says in a press release, “It’s the story of the most beautiful man in the world who becomes exhausted with the burden of other people’s desires, and comes up with a plan to get rid of their desires and to be free of that.”

Gray will be working with UNB education professor Matt Rogers and UNB alumni and filmmaker Jon Dewar under their Frictive Pictures banner, with funding from Telefilm Canada, the Talent Fund, Bell Media, Corus Entertainment, and the New Brunswick Film Co-op. through their joint Micro-Budget Production Program to support emerging filmmakers. The filmmakers also plan to crowdfund and seek provincial grants to support its production.
