Sandra Dumais named IBBY Canada’s 2022 Joanne Fitzgerald Illustrator in Residence

IBBY Canada’s Joanne Fitzgerald Illustrator in Residence for 2022 is children’s book author and illustrator Sandra Dumais. The program, which offers a published Canadian children’s book illustrator a month-long residency at a public library, will take place at Toronto Public Library’s North York Central Library for the month of October.

Dumais, who won Quebec’s prestigious Prix des libraires in 2020 and 2021, uses pencils, gouache, digital collage, and acrylic paint for her illustrations. During her residency she will offer art activities for visiting classes, one-on-one online portfolio reviews, online evening workshops for adults, and presentations to high school and college students.

The Illustrator in Residence program is a joint project of IBBY Canada, Toronto Public Library, the Canadian Urban Libraries Council, and the Young family, and honours the life Joanne Fitzgerald (1956–2011).
