What is a presumptive national bestesller? The answer is the forthcoming memoir by long-time Jeopardy! host Alex Trebek. Simon & Schuster announced today that the company has secured print and audio rights to Trebek’s book, slyly titled The Answer Is …: Reflections on My Life.

The volume, which is set to publish on July 21 – the day before Trebek turns 80 years old – will cover the Sudbury, Ontario, native’s more than three decades spent as the host of the popular television quiz show, as well as touching on more personal subjects such as parenthood, spirituality, and success.

In an announcement from S&S, executive editor Sean Manning writes, “Today, when there is so much uncertainty and turmoil in the world, Alex Trebek is a beacon of stability and positivity.”

When word broke last year of Trebek’s diagnosis with Stage IV pancreatic cancer, fans and well-wishers emerged from all corners to express their concern and gratitude for the years of entertainment and comfort he has provided. In March of this year, Trebek announced that he had beaten the one-year life expectancy for cancer of his type. “I want people to know a little more about the person they have been cheering on for the past year,” he writes in his memoir.

The book – which will feature chapter titles in the form of questions, address Trebek’s thoughts on famous Jeopardy! champions such as Ken Jennings, and come clean about what prompted him to shave his signature moustache – is sure to find an audience among admirers of the show and those who follow Trebek as a kind of pop-culture fixture.

This year marks the author’s 36th season as Jeopardy! host.
