Six books have been shortlisted for the 2026 Vancouver Book Award.

The West Coast Book Prize Society has announced the six books shortlisted for the 2026 Vancouver Book Award.

The annual $3,000 prize recognizes a book of any genre that contributes to an understanding of the city’s people and places.

This year’s shortlist includes nonfiction and poetry titles, with four of the six shortlisted titles coming from independent Canadian publishers.

The winner will be named at a ceremony in Vancouver on Nov. 21.

The shortlisted titles are:

• Searching for Serafim: The Life and Legacy of Serafim “Joe” Fortes by Ruby Smith Diaz (Arsenal Pulp Press)
• SCAR/CITY by Daniela Elza (McGill-Queen’s University Press)
• Reconciling: A Lifelong Struggle to Belong by Larry Grant with Scott Steedman (ECW Press)
• Crackdown: Surviving and Resisting the War on Drugs by Garth Mullins (Doubleday Canada/Penguin Random House Canada)
• Crowd Source by Cecily Nicholson (Talonbooks)
• Chinatown Vancouver: An Illustrated History by Donna Seto (Ambrosia/House of Anansi Press)
