I’m Thinking Of Ending Things (Mary Cybulski/Netflix)

The trailer for Charlie Kaufman’s film adaptation of Iain Reid’s 2016 novel I’m Thinking of Ending Things has been released by Netflix. The book by the Kingston, Ontario, writer is about a woman who goes to meet her new boyfriend’s parents on a remote farm, leading to a series of surreal events.

Kaufman is known for writing daring and inventive films such as Being John Malkovich, The Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, and Synecdoche, New York. The film adaptation stars Jessie Buckley (Chernobyl) as the protagonist, Jesse Plemons (Friday Night Lights) as her boyfriend, and Toni Collette (Knives Out) and David Thewlis (the Harry Potter series) as the parents.

The film rights to Reid’s second novel, Foe, have been acquired by Anonymous Content, which produced the Oscar-winning film Spotlight. I’m Thinking of Ending Things will premiere on Netflix on Sept. 4.
