Three emerging writers announced for Bronwen Wallace Award

Three young writers have been announced as finalists for the RBC Bronwen Wallace Award for Emerging Writers. The Writers’ Trust of Canada literary prize celebrates an emerging writer under 35 with a grand prize worth $10,000. Each of the three finalists receives $2,500.

The finalists are:

  • “Kingdom Come,” by Sarah Christina Brown
  • “The Ermine Coat,” by Maria Reva
  • “Adjacent Rooms,” by Khalida Hassan

A judging panel comprising poet and Giller Prize–winning novelist Martha Baillie; American War author Omar El Akkad; and short-story writer Ayelet Tsabari will choose the winner, to be announced on May 28 at the Royal Conservatory of Music in Toronto.

The nominated short stories are available to download on iBooks, alongside finalists from previous years. The RBC Bronwen Wallace Award alternates annually between awarding short fiction and poetry.
