Three writers inducted into Canadian sci-fi hall of fame

Kelley Armstrong, James Alan Gardner, and Mike Glicksohn have been inducted into the Canadian Science Fiction and Fantasy Association’s Hall of Fame.

The organization announced this year’s inductees on July 2. The hall of fame was established in 2014 to honour the writers, editors, publishers, artists, and others who have contributed to Canadian science fiction, fantasy, and horror. This year’s inductees were selected by a jury comprised of J.M. Landels, Y.M. Pang, Clifford Samuels, Edo van Belkom, and jury chair David Clink. Those inducted into the CSFFA Hall of Fame receive a plaque and have their names engraved on the permanent trophy.

Armstrong, who lives in southwestern Ontario, has written more than 50 novels and dozens of short stories. She is the winner of the White Pine Award, an Aurora Award, the Ruth & Sylvia Schwartz Children’s Book Award, and the RITA Award.

Gardner lives in southern Ontario and has been writing science fiction and fantasy for more than 40 years and has written 10 novels and many short stories. His work has won an Aurora Award, the Seiun, the Asimov’s Readers’ Choice, the Writers of the Future Contest, and the Theodore Sturgeon Memorial Award.

Glicksohn, admitted to the hall of fame posthumously, was involved in science fiction, fantasy, and horror fandom for more than four decades and co-founded the Ontario Science Fiction Club in 1966.

Earlier this year, the CSFFA announced the shortlists for this year’s Aurora Awards. The winners will be announced on August 9.
