TIFA announces summer crime festival, moves to Word on the Street weekend for 2022

The Toronto International Festival of Authors is trying some new things for 2022, launching a summer crime and mystery festival and shifting its dates from late October to late September. While this year’s festival will once again be virtual, running October 21 – 31, next year’s in-person event at Toronto’s Harbourfront Centre will run September 22 – October 2.

The annual books and magazine festival Word on the Street, which is traditionally held at Harbourfront Centre during the last weekend of September, has changes in store as well. “We have been considering alternative sites for the next Word On The Street festival since last spring, and we will be making an announcement about our plans for 2022 in the coming months,” festival director David Alexander says.

The new TIFA crime and mystery festival will be held June 3 – 5, 2022, and feature Canadian and international writers across 50 events. There will be a particular focus on Nordic authors as part of Harbourfront Centre’s year-long Nordic Bridges program.

Programming for this year’s digital festival will be announced in September.
