Tracey Lindberg and George Littlechild win Warland Award

Tracey Lindberg and George Littlechild have been named winners of the 2025 Warland Award for The Cree Word for Love : Sâkihitowin, published by HarperCollins Canada.

The winners of the prize were announced at an online event on Sept. 12.

The annual Warland Award recognizes outstanding hybrid-genre books published in Canada. Administered by Vancouver Manuscript Intensive, the award is named in honour of writer, editor, and teacher Betsy Warland. The award was judged by writer and academic Phanuel Antwi and comes with a $500 prize.

“Through powerful storytelling and breathtaking art, The Cree Word for Love explores love in its many forms, reaching far beyond Western definitions,” the prize announcement said. “The book exemplifies the boundary-crossing literary work the Warland Award was created to celebrate.”

The winner was selected from a shortlist of six titles announced in August.
