Canadian publishers continue to dominate the Bologna Prize for the Best Children’s Publishers of the Year for the North America region, with Tundra Books named as the 2026 winner of the prize.
The Penguin Random House Canada imprint was named the winner at the Bologna Children’s Book Fair, which runs until April 16.
The prize is awarded annually to publishing houses for excellence in creativity, innovation, and the quality of their editorial choices. Winners are named in six geographical areas (Africa, Asia, Caribbean, Central and South America, Europe, North America, and Oceania).
Canadian publishers have now won this award 10 times since the prize was established in 2013, including Greystone Kids (2024), La courte échelle (2023), and Monsieur Ed (2022).
The other nominees this year for the North America region were Victoria’s Orca Book Publishers and Varennes, Quebec–based Milky Way Picture Books (an imprint of Groupe Comme des géants), Simon & Schuster Children’s Publishing, and U.S. independent Tra Publishing.
The other prize winners are: Saaraba Éditions (Senegal) for Africa; Bronze Publishing (Japan) for Asia; Lecturita Ediciones (Argentina) for Caribbean, Central and South America; Éditions La Doux (France) for Europe; and Messy Press (New Zealand) for Oceania.
