Three writers have been named finalists for the 2024 Dayne Ogilvie Prize for LGBTQ2S+ Emerging Writers.
The $10,000 prize is presented annually by the Writers’ Trust of Canada to an emerging writer who identifies as lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, or two-spirit. The three finalists were selected from 26 books submitted by 21 publishing imprints. A jury comprised of authors Jillian Christmas, Adam Garnet Jones, and Hazel Jane Plante made the selections.
The three finalists are:
- Vincent Anioke for Perfect Little Angels (Arsenal Pulp Press)
- Éric Chacour for What I Know About You, translated by Pablo Strauss (Coach House Books)
- Anthony Oliveira for Dayspring (Strange Light/Penguin Random House Canada)
Finalists receive $1,000, with translators receiving a portion of prize monies.
The winner will be announced at the Writers’ Trust Awards on Nov. 19.
The prize has been awarded since it was founded by Robin Pacific in 2007 in honour of the late Dayne Ogilvie, and received an investment by last year’s winner, Anuja Varghese.
