Writer, artist, and musician Vivek Shraya has been named senior editor at Random House Canada.
Random House Canada publisher Sue Kuruvilla announced Shraya’s appointment on Feb. 10. She will begin her new role on March 3, and she will be acquiring a range of titles across genres, including self-improvement, celebrity memoir, music and entertainment, women’s issues, as well as genre and literary fiction, and will focus on working with 2SLGBTQIA+ and BIPOC creators, the announcement said.
“We are thrilled to welcome Vivek to Random House Canada. As a creator herself, she has a deep understanding of the artist’s experience, and I know she will bring tremendous empathy and insight to her work as an editor,” Kuruvilla said in a release. “At Random House Canada, we seek to empower our authors to unleash their creativity and pursue their passions fearlessly, and I’m incredibly excited to partner with Vivek in service of that goal as she builds her list.”
Shraya is the author of 12 books spanning multiple genres, and founded a literary imprint and mentorship program, VS Books, at Arsenal Pulp Press in 2017. That work will conclude as Shraya moves to Random House Canada, though she will continue to publish her own writing alongside the editorial duties of her new role. Her next novel, The Hystericals, is forthcoming from McClelland & Stewart, and Tundra Books will publish her next children’s book, which is about songwriting.
