Whistler Writing Society names new artistic and executive director

Rebecca Wood Barrett has been named the new artistic and executive director of the Whistler Writing Society.

She will be the second person to lead the charitable organization since it was founded 21 years ago. Founder and artistic director Stella Harvey is retiring from the role.

Wood Barrett has worked on the organization’s flagship event, the Whistler Writers Festival, in multiple roles since it was first held in 2001.

“I’m truly honoured to develop and lead the literary programming of The Whistler Writing Society,” Wood Barrett said in a release. “Stella has evolved the festival from a fledgling single reading and workshop event into a world-class literary festival, and I look forward to building on her legacy, one that supports local writers and amplifies the diverse voices of Canadian authors, both emerging and established.”
