
The Writers’ Trust of Canada has announced the finalists for the Hilary Weston Writers’ Trust Prize for Nonfiction. As of this year, the winning writer receives $75,000. Each finalist receives $5,000 and translators receive a portion of prize monies. This prize, recognizing excellence in literary nonfiction is supported by the Hilary and Galen Weston Foundation.
The 2023 finalists are:
- My Road from Damascus: A Memoir by Jamal Saeed and Catherine Cobham, trans. (ECW Press)
- Ordinary Notes by Christina Sharpe (Knopf Canada/Penguin Random House Canada)
- Unbroken: My Fight for Survival, Hope, and Justice for Indigenous Women and Girls by Angela Sterritt (Greystone Books)
- Ordinary Wonder Tales: Essays by Emily Urquhart (Biblioasis)
- Fire Weather: The Making of a Beast by John Vaillant (Knopf Canada/PRHC)
This year’s finalists were chosen from 99 titles submitted by 55 publishing imprints by a jury comprised of authors Eve Joseph, Michelle Porter, and 2022 prize winner Dan Werb. The winner will be announced at the Writers’ Trust Awards on November 21.
