Read Local BC has launched a trio of limited-edition book boxes designed to help people give the gift of reading this holiday season while also supporting British Columbia–based independent publishers.

The three book boxes, each with its own distinct theme and price, have been curated by local independent booksellers, and are available for purchase on the Read Local BC website. (Read Local BC is a project of the Association of Book Publishers of BC, also known as Books BC.)

A B.C. culinary box features two titles from Figure 1 Publishing and TouchWood Editions and was curated by Mary-Ann Yazedjian, a bookseller at Black Bond Books and Book Warehouse in Vancouver; an Indigenous voices box features three titles from Medicine Wheel Publishing, Arsenal Pulp Press, and Talonbooks, and was curated by Hilary Atleo, co-owner of Vancouver’s Iron Dog Books; and an early readers box features three titles from Heritage House Publishing, Orca Book Publishers, and Greystone Books, curated by Kerri Doyle, owner of Books & Shenanigans in Victoria.

The Read Local online shop will be live until Dec. 5, with each box available while supplies last.
