Three books have been named finalists for the 2025 BMO Winterset Award.
The three books were part of a seven-book longlist announced earlier this month. The annual $12,500 prize celebrates excellence in Newfoundland and Labrador writing across all genres. The two finalists will each receive $3,000.
Titles were selected from 37 books submitted by publishers across the country. The jury for this year’s award is comprised of authors Robert Chafe, Sara Power, and Susie Taylor.
The finalists for this year’s prize are:
- The Saltbox Olive by Angela Antle (Breakwater Books)
- Cautiously Pessimistic by Debbie McGee (Breakwater Books)
- Veal by Mackenzie Nolan (ECW Press)
The finalists will give readings from their nominated books in St. John’s on April 8, and the winner will be named at an awards ceremony at Government House on April 9.
