Looking back at 2014: the year in review

LeNoelLa Pastèque wins the world: Montreal’s Éditions de la Pastèque may not be a household name in English Canada yet, but the comics press was big news in Italy at this year’s Bologna Children’s Book Fair, where it received the Bologna Prize for North America. La Pastèque, which launched its kids’ imprint three years ago, also picked up the Bologna Ragazzi Award for fiction for its picture book Le Noël de Marguerite (written by India Desjardins and illustrated by Pascal Blanchet).

Media shuffle: In October, Little Brother literary journal founder Emily M. Keeler took over Mark Medley’s position as National Post books editor, two months after Medley left for the same position at The Globe and Mail. Over at the Toronto Star, Deborah Dundas was appointed books editor, replacing Dianne Rinehart.
