Twelve books have been longlisted for the 30th annual Scotiabank Giller Prize.
The longlisted books were chosen by 145 books submitted by publishers across Canada – a record number of submissions. Canadian novels and short-fiction collections published between October 1, 2022 and September 30, 2023 were eligible for this year’s prize.
In an event in St. Johns, last year’s winner Suzette Mayr announced the dozen titles on this year’s longlist:

- Menaka Raman-Wilms, The Rooftop Garden (Nightwood Editions)
- CS Richardson, All the Colour in the World (Knopf Canada/PRHC)
- Kasia Van Schaik, We Have Never Lived on Earth (University of Alberta Press)
- Deborah Willis, Girlfriend on Mars (Hamish Hamilton/Penguin Random House Canada)
Selections for this year’s award were made by a jury comprised of chair and Canadian author Ian Williams, Canadian authors Sharon Bala and Brian Thomas Isaac, American author Rebecca Makkai, and British-Indian author Neel Mukherjee.
The shortlist for this year’s prize will be announced on October 11 in Toronto.
