Bologna Children’s Book Fair opens rights centre to adult trade publishing

BolognaMake room for more titles in the tent: the Bologna Children’s Book Fair is extending participation in its rights centre to rights professionals across the industry for its 2023 fair.

The decision to expand the fair’s rights centre to adult trade publishing comes as the fair marks its 60th birthday.

“Our BCBF Agents’ Centre has enjoyed great success over many years and it seems a logical next step in its development that we welcome a broader audience from rights trading communities,” director Elena Pasoli said in a statement. “Offering new opportunities to the wider publishing industry is a great way of celebrating a milestone birthday for Bologna.”

The crucial gathering for children’s publishers was held in person earlier this year after being cancelled for two years during the pandemic. The event is typically well attended by Canadian publishers, with 35 publishers participating in the 2022 fair, either as exhibitors or through Livres Canada Books’ marketing collective.

Bologna is the marquee international event for children’s book publishing, typically attracting 1,500 exhibitors and 30,000 attendees from about 100 countries each year. The 2023 iteration will take place from March 6 to 9 in Bologna, Italy.
