Three Canadian creators are among the 32 winners of this year’s Will Eisner Comic Industry Awards.
Mariko Tamaki and Javier Rodriguez won the Eisner award for Best Limited Series for Zatanna: Bring Down the House (DC).
Boum won Best U.S. Edition of International Material for The Jellyfish, translated by Robin Lang and Helge Dascher (Pow Pow Press).
Joshua Barkman won the award for Best Webcomic for Life After Life (False Knees).
The trio were among more than 10 Canadians who were shortlisted for this year’s comic awards. The winners were named on July 25 at a ceremony in San Diego, California, during this year’s San Diego Comic-Con.
The Eisner Award is the latest in a string of wins for Boum’s The Jellyfish, which won the Doug Wright Nipper award for emerging talent last month, a Graphic Medicine Award for best long-form comic in April, and was also named an honour book for this year’s Lynn Ward Graphic Novel Prize. The Eisner Awards win was the first for Pow Pow Press, and Boum is the first Quebec author to win this category .
