Broadview Press partners with Trent University

Independent academic publisher Broadview Press has entered into a 10-year partnership with Trent University.

Under the agreement, which takes effect June 1, Trent students will have the opportunity to participate in co-op placements and internships with Broadview Press, giving them publishing experience in both the editorial and production sides of publishing as well as the business side, the press said in a statement.

Trent faculty will have the opportunity to develop joint editorial initiatives with Broadview, including the development of textbooks, literary editions, and digital publications. Broadview Press, which is based in Peterborough, Ont., as Trent is, will also be appointing a Trent professor to its board of directors.

The agreement will also see the establishment of a prize for outstanding work in the social sciences or humanities. The winner of the annual $5,000 Trent-Broadview Prize will be selected by a committee of academics from the university.

“Academic publishing is a key way in which universities contribute to knowledge and teaching, and all that they make possible,” Dr. Leo Groarke, president and vice-chancellor of Trent, said in a press release. “This collaboration, with one of Canada’s most successful independent academic publishers, will promote these aims by creating valuable experiential learning opportunities for students who seek to pursue a career in publishing.”
