Taste Canada has announced the shortlists for its annual food writing awards.
This year, volunteer juries selected 46 French- and English-language cookbooks from 91 submitted titles. Thirteen food blogs were also nominated.
Simon Thibault’s debut, Pantry and Palate: Remembering and Rediscovering Acadian Food (Nimbus Publishing) – which was named one of Q&Q’s top titles of 2017 – is up against four other titles in the regional/cultural category, including David Wolfman and Marlene Finn’s Cooking with the Wolfman: Indigenous Fusion (Douglas & McIntyre). Nominees in other categories include Lynn Crawford for Farm to Chef (Penguin Canada), Nathalie Cooke and Fiona Lucas for Catharine Parr Traill’s The Female Emigrant’s Guide: Cooking with a Canadian Classic (McGill-Queen’s University Press), and Jan Wong for Apron Strings: Navigating Food and Family in France, Italy, and China (Goose Lane Editions).
All the shortlisted titles are available here. The winners will be announced at a gala on Oct. 29 at the Fairmont Royal York Hotel.
