The Newfoundland and Labrador Book Awards (NLBAs) announced the winner of the 2023 E.J. Pratt Family Poetry Award on September 26.

Don McKay won the prize for Lurch, his 14th collection of poetry, published by McClelland & Stewart.

The shortlists for the Newfoundland and Labrador Book Award, which include the E.J. Pratt Family Poetry Award and the Power Family Non-Fiction Award, were announced on September 14. The winner of the nonfiction prize will be announced on September 27.

The jurors for the 2023 poetry prize were Annick MacAskill, Sharon Berg, and Beth Follett.

The NLBAs are coordinated annually by WritersNL to recognize excellence in writing by authors residing in Newfoundland and Labrador.
