Five Canadian books among finalists for Libby Book Awards

OverDrive e-book borrowing app Libby is lending its name to a new award.

For the first time, the Libby Book Awards (Libbys for short), will be awarded to books in 17 categories. Finalists were nominated by a panel of librarians and will be voted on by librarians and library workers across North America. Winners will be announced on March 12.

Five books by Canadian authors are among the inaugural finalists.

Eleanor Catton is a finalist in the best adult fiction category for her Giller-shortlisted novel Birnam Wood.

Among the five finalists for best comic/graphic novel are two books by Canadians: Emily Carroll’s A Guest in the House and Jillian Tamaki and Mariko Tamaki’s Roaming.

Naomi Klein and Elliot Page are both nominated in the best memoir and autobiography category for Doppelganger and Page Boy, respectively.

Catton’s novel is also up for another librarian-voted prize this year – Birnam Wood is one of 70 books, seven of them by Canadian authors, longlisted for the 2024 Dublin Literary Award.
