The Al Purdy A-frame Association (APAFA) has announced the five finalists for the $10,000 Al and Eurithe Purdy Poetry Prize for 2026.
The shortlisted titles are:
- I Would Like to Say Thank You by Joseph Dandurand (Nightwood Editions)
- Parade of Storms by Evelyn Lau (Anvil Press)
- Wellwater by Karen Solie (House of Anansi Press)
- On The News that Sagittarius A* Grows Hungrier by Nicola Vulpe (Guernica Editions)
- Out of the Ordinary by Tom Wayman (Harbour Publishing)
The prize, now in its third year, was established in 2024 by Al Purdy’s widow Eurithe Purdy and is administered by the Al Purdy A-Frame Association to recognize the most outstanding new poetry book by an established Canadian poet who has published five or more poetry books. A longlist of 10 titles was announced in late March.
This year’s jury is composed of poets Susan Musgrave, and the previous winners of the prize, Sid Marty and A.F. Moritz.
The winner will be named on April 21, on the 26th anniversary of Al Purdy’s death.
