Four books have been named to the 2024 BMO Winterset Award shortlist.
The annual award, now in its 25th year, celebrates Newfoundland and Labrador writers across all genres, granting a $12,500 prize to the winner. This year, to celebrate the award’s anniversary, two $12,500 prizes will be awarded: one to a work of fiction and one to a work of nonfiction. Two finalists will each be granted $3,000.
The award is administered by ArtsNL. This year, 30 entries were received.
The four finalists were selected from the seven-book longlist announced earlier this month.
The finalists are:
- Art of Camouflage by Sara Power (Freehand Books)
- Invisible Prisons by Lisa Moore and Jack Whelan (Knopf Canada/Penguin Random House Canada)
- Otherwise Grossly Unremarkable by Ashleigh Matthews (Breakwater Books)
- Vigil by Susie Taylor (Breakwater Books)
The winners will be announced at an April 10 ceremony at Government House in St. John’s.
