Saskatoon-based writer Meredith Hambrock has won the 2026 Stephen Leacock Memorial Medal for Humour for her novel She’s a Lamb.
The book, one of three shortlisted for the $25,000 prize that celebrates excellence in Canadian literary humour, was published by ECW Press.
Hambrock was named the winner at a gala in Orillia, Ontario, on June 20. The other two finalists, Susan Nielsen and Mark Waddell, were also in attendance. They each receive a prize of $5,000.
She’s a Lamb, Hambrock’s sophomore novel, follows the fortunes of Jessamyn St. Germain, an actor determined to play the star role of Maria in a production of The Sound of Music – despite not being cast in the role. Hambrock has worked extensively in television, most recently in the writers’ room for the sitcom Corner Gas Animated.
Previous winners of the Leacock Medal include Will Ferguson, W.O.Mitchell, Stuart McLean, Mordecai Richler, and last year’s winner, Natalie Sue.
