Nadia Ragbar has been named the winner of the inaugural Invisible Publishing First Novel Prize.

Ragbar’s winning manuscript, “The Pugilist and the Sailor,” will be published in 2025. The indie publisher announced the winner on Twitter this month. The author receives $3,000 as well as a $1,000 advance against royalties.

Invisible Publishing announced the creation of the prize, which is awarded in collaboration with York University’s book publishing program, in early 2023.

Writers Michaela Stephen, Conner MacDonald, and Dorianne Emerton were named finalists for this year’s award.
