Poetry month at Quill & Quire

This poetry month, Q&Q asked artist Karen Taylor to work with an excerpt from Gillian Sze’s new collection Quiet Night Think, published by ECW Press, to develop a piece of thematic art.

Sze’s book is multi-genre, containing both poems and personal essays that explore the ideas of family and origins.

The following excerpt evoked so much of the potential of poetry:

“What is this space that poetry offers? Creative space. Emotional space. Reflective space. A space for possibilities.”

Taylor interpreted these lines in her inimitable text-driven style, working with a colour palette that captures the promise of spring.

Each week this April, Q&Q will publish online one new profile of four poets.

Gillian Sze will be the poet featured during the first week of April, followed by a profile of Madhur Anand and her latest collection Parasitic Oscillations, published by McClelland & Stewart.

The third week of April will feature a profile of Sue Sinclair and Almost Beauty, a new collected works published by Goose Lane Editions. Shani Mootoo, who makes a long-awaited return to poetry with Cane | Fire, published by Book*hug Press, will be profiled in the final week of April.
