TIFA unveils 2022 festival lineup

The Toronto International Festival of Authors returns to its in-person location at Harbourfront Centre this year, with a packed lineup and new festival dates.

TIFA will take place from September 22 to October 2, about a month earlier than previous iterations of the annual festival. And for the first time since the pandemic, the festival will take place in person, with more than 200 events and activities making up what is billed as the largest festival to date.

“When I started my role in 2020, we had no idea what was about to happen to our world. What we have been reminded of through this time in history is that as human beings we have an intrinsic need to tell and share stories, and to come together as a community,” TIFA director Roland Gulliver said in a release. “The art of storytelling has had a long tradition of bringing people together and that notion is the foundation of why TIFA exists. We are delighted to be back to in-person events, bringing Torontonians together in celebration of unique and universal stories from some of the world’s greatest storytellers.”

Canadian authors scheduled for events at this year’s TIFA include screenwriter and director Sarah Polley, musician Martha Wainwright, Joshua Whitehead, Vivek Shraya, and Dionne Brand.

The festival also includes a TIFA Kids lineup of more than 30 performances and events for young readers.

A number of free exhibitions, including Canadian Geographic Education’s Indigenous Peoples Atlas Canada, as well as a small press market, are also slated for this year’s festival.

A full festival lineup is available online. Tickets go on sale August 29.
