The winner of the 2022 Lionel Gelber Prize is The American War in Afghanistan: A History by Carter Malkasian, published by Oxford University Press.
The book was one of five titles shortlisted for the award. The jury included Canadian political scientist Janice Gross Stein and Globe and Mail columnist Doug Saunders.
The $15,000 prize is awarded annually to the best nonfiction book written in English on global affairs that seeks to deepen public debate on significant international issues. The prize is presented by the University of Toronto’s Munk School of Global Affairs & Public Policy and Foreign Policy magazine.
