Annie Koyama might be closing her acclaimed eponymous comic press in 2021, but Koyama Press is going out strong. The Toronto-based publisher has three of the four nominations for the Doug Wright Best Book Award, celebrating excellence in Canadian comics.

The awards, which will be presented on May 11 at the Toronto Reference Library during the Toronto Comic Arts Festival, also celebrate rising talent with the Doug Wright Spotlight Award (a.k.a. The Nipper) and the Pigskin Peters Award for experimental, avant garde, and unconventional work.

This year’s recipients of the Giants of the Canadian North award for their body of work are Toronto’s Fiona Smyth and Iqaluit-born and Ottawa-based Alootook Ipellie. The complete list of nominees follows.
