Thirteen books across a variety of genres have been longlisted for the 2023 Toronto Book Award.
The annual award honours books of literary merit that are inspired by Toronto. Finalists each receive $1,000 and the winner receives $10,000.
A record-setting 105 books published between June 1, 2022 and May 31, 2023 were submitted to this year’s award.
The longlisted books are:

- The Story of Us by Catherine Hernandez (Harper Avenue/HarperCollins)
- Denison Avenue by Daniel Innes & Christina Wong (ECW Press)
- Wild Fires by Sophie Jai (The Borough Press/HarperCollins Publishers)
- On the Ravine by Vincent Lam (Knopf Canada/Penguin Random House Canada)
- Moving the Museum by Wanda Nanibush and Georgiana Uhlyarik (Goose Lane Editions)
- The Melancholy of Summer by Louisa Onomé (HarperCollins)
- Finding Edward by Sheila Murray (Cormorant Books)
- Quality Time by Suzannah Showler (McClelland & Stewart/Penguin Random House Canada)
- The Fake by Zoe Whittall (HarperCollins)
- Clara at the Door with a Revolver by Carolyn Whitzman (On Point Press/UBC Press)
Selections for this year’s prize were made by a jury comprised of Kateri Akiwenzie-Damm, Jamila-Khanom Allidina, Steven W. Beattie, Sue Carter, and karen lee.
The shortlist will be announced later this summer, with the winner to be named in October.
