Monique Gray Smith, Richard Van Camp, Kate Harris among BC Book Prize nominees

The West Coast Book Prize Society has announced the finalists in seven categories for its annual BC Book Prizes.

This year’s nominees include Kate Harris, who recently won the RBC Taylor Prize for her memoir Lands of Lost Borders: Out of Bounds on the Silk Road (Knopf Canada) and Lindsay Wong, whose memoir The Woo-Woo: How I Survived Ice Hockey, Drug Raids, Demons, and My Crazy Chinese Family (Arsenal Pulp Press) was nominated for the Hilary Weston Writers’ Trust Prize for Nonfiction and was selected as a contender for this year’s Canada Reads.

Bill Gaston was nominated in two categories, including the Roderick Haig-Brown Regional Prize, for his memoir Just Let Me Look at You: On Fatherhood (Hamish Hamilton Canada). Monique Gray Smith and Richard Van Camp are up for the Christie Harris Illustrated Children’s Literature Prize for their double-sided picture book, The Journey Forward, A Novella On Reconciliation: When We Play Our Drums, They Sing!/Lucy & Lola (McKellar and Martin).
