The Writers’ Union of Canada has announced the five authors shortlisted for the 2022 Danuta Gleed Literary Award.
The $10,000 prize recognizes the best first collection of short fiction published in English by a Canadian author. A total of three authors will be honoured by the prize, with two finalists each awarded $1,000.
The finalists are:
- Nada Alic, Bad Thoughts (Vintage Books)
- Kathy Friedman, All the Shining People (House of Anansi Press)
- Kim Fu, Lesser Known Monsters of the 21st Century (Coach House Books)
- Rawi Hage, Stray Dogs (Knopf Canada)
- Saeed Teebi, Her First Palestinian (House of Anansi Press)
The finalists were chosen from the 23 submitted collections by a jury comprised of authors Cynthia Holz, Sally Ito, and Jack Wang. Winners will be announced on May 25.
